Overview: Ready for the ultimate adventure? Troop 1396 is backpacking and paddling out to Elm Island, where you’ll test your survival skills, build shelters, cook off the land, and prove you’ve got what it takes to earn the coveted Wilderness Survival Merit Badge.
We’ll depart promptly on Friday to ensure we reach the island before dark. Saturday will be spent honing survival techniques, including a night in a lean-to shelter of your own making. Scouts working on the Wilderness Survival merit badge, this is your time to shine!

Scouts will explore the Virginia Museum of the Civil War, walk the hallowed grounds of the battlefield, and—if time permits—visit the Route 11 Potato Chip Factory for a fun and tasty detour. This adventure promises a unique blend of hands-on history, outdoor camping, and great troop bonding. Don’t miss out on this memorable weekend!
