About Troop 1396

Troop 1396 was chartered in 1989 and is sponsored by St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Lake Ridge, Virginia.

We meet at 7:30 PM every Tuesday at Lake Ridge Middle School (during the school year) or at St. Matthew's (during the summer and when school is closed).

Troop 1396 has a very active Scout and Scouter (adult member) membership as well as a great record of Eagle Scouts.  Please see the actual data and information further down on this page.  Here is the list of Eagle Scouts from Troop 1396!

Activities

Troop 1396 is committed to the Outdoor Program -- camping and hiking year-round -- and has also launched a Venturing Crew for boys and girls age 14-20. (Crew 1396)  A week-long summer camp or high-adventure camp is the major event of the year, but we typically plan one-weekend outing a month.  Some of the exciting activities Troop 1396 conducted or participated in are:

• Camp Bowers, Woodstock, Virginia

• Winter camping and Klondike Derby

• FAA Command Center Tour and Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum

• Hylton Planetarium & Laser Show

• "E-Jamboree" Electronics in Scouting tournament

• Orienteering, camping, and hiking at Old Rag Mountain, VA

• Soapbox Derby car build & race

• Bicycle tour at Gettysburg National Military Park, PA

• "Survivor Island" Potomac River camping, canoeing, and wilderness survival skills

• Memorial Day flag raising at Quantico National Cemetery

• Whitewater kayaking the Patowmack Channel near Violette's Lock, MD

• Tenderfoot Campout for new Scouts

• Week-long Summer Camp at T. Brady Saunders in Maidens, VA

• Visits to the BSA Centennial Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, VA

• BSA Centennial Parade on the National Mall in Washington, DC

• Backpacking and fishing at a hidden mountain lake in the Massanutten Mountains, VA

• Mountain biking on the Mudhole Gap Trail in Fort Valley, VA

• Medieval campout and Renaissance Fair, MD

• Halloween Haunted Campsite

• "Scouting for Food" charity food drive

• Venturing Hike-o-Ree in the Shenandoah Mountains

• "Star Wars" campout and NASA Wallops Island Flight Facility visit
