Summit Bechtel Reserve
Summer is almost here and we are starting to prepare for summer camp. This year we will be going back to Justice Scout Camp at Summit Bechtel in West Virginia. The troop is scheduled to go June 27th through July 3rd. Summit Bechtel is a National BSA camp that offers two camps, Justice Scout camp and High Adventure camp. We will be staying at Justice Scout camp where the Scouts can participate in merit badge classes and some Action Point activities such as BMX & mountain biking, skateboarding, canopy, High COPE and zip lining. We do have the option of participating in some activities at the High Adventure camp, these are Buy-up opportunities and have some age restrictions. There will also be an opportunity for cross registered Troop/Crew Scouts to work on the Ranger Award (details about that will be sent to the Crew members).
Below are links to the merit badge schedule and pre-reqs. We do not have to select merit badges at this time but this is what JSC has to offer. They offer the following Eagle required merit badges: Swimming, Lifesaving, Communications, Environmental Science, Camping, First Aid, Emergency Preparedness and Sustainability as well as over 35 other merit badges. A merit badge signup email and link will come out at a later date.
For new Scouts, JSC offers Brownsea Island. It is program designed to help new Scouts rank up quickly as they will be completing many requirements of tenderfoot, second class and first class as well as totin' chip and fire'm chit. They will not be completing any merit badges in this program but could attend the evening merit badge midways. See linked schedule below.
How do I register for camp?
Complete the permission slip, Summit Waiver form and if applicable the Whitewater Release. These forms need to be completed for Scouts and Scouters.
Payment must accompany the permission slip. All Scouts pay the $470 fee whether they are attending JSC, Brownsea Island Program. High Adventure Buy-ups are an additional cost.
Payment can be made via check, cash or charge. More info to come on how to charge your payment and there will be a 3% service charge on all charge payments.
Medical ABC forms. All Scouts and Scouters must have an up-to-date form before leaving for camp. Please check with Robert Kampen if you are unsure that your forms are up-to-date and schedule a physical as soon as possible.
Scouters attending camp. At this time, we do not know what the adult cost will be. It will be determined once we see how many adults are attending. We will need a copy of your YPT certificate.
All items (permission slip, Summit waiver, whitewater release, YPT certificate and payment) are due to Campmaster Sue Straka by April 20th. She will be at the Troop meeting every week if you have any questions or to drop off forms/payment. Look for upcoming emails about signing up for merit badges and for making a charge payment.
